Not for people who learn VISUALLY, that much is clear. I love the Web, I designed my first site in 1995. I sell Internet advertising and also have a freelance Web design business, so I wanted to sharpen my skills. Whoo. This book is great…if you are looking for a sleep aid! YAWN… I have very strong computer skills, and have taught myself some difficult stuff (including HTML from just reading other people’s code). I took a class where this book was given out, and it was the most boring, dry, difficult to wade through text I’ve ever experienced. I can honestly say I got NOTHING from this text. It may be their approach, writing style, who knows? But if you can read and retain information presented abstractly, give this book a try. But if you need to get your hand on the mouse and drive, with a textbook at hand–do yourself a favor and get a Visual Quickstart Guide (Peachpit Press). You’ll be grateful you did!

This book is great–if you are a beginner. It has no solid relevant information to take into the business world. I own their c++ how to program, and thought this book would be great too, but I was wrong. If you want useful and excellent information for internet programming turn to wrox publishing, they have some excellent books out there. This one bites.

I have over 10 years experience in “old economy” system development. Like many others, I’ve to do WWW project but no time to catch up with all those WWW buzzwords & technologies.
This book provides very good survey on broad subjects about WWW. After reading this book, I know which topic I need to learn more, which one I can skip.

This is a good book for those just getting into internet programming. I am a big fan of C++ How To Program and I like the Deitel books in general. I think is is a great book if you area just getting your feet wet in this area of programming.
